“Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.” Joseph Pilates
Joseph Pilates developed his exercise method in the 1930s and it is very popular today, providing a range of health and well-being benefits for people of any age or physical condition.
The aims of Pilates are to:
- Promote a more efficient and supportive core
- Strengthen muscles and joints
- Increase mobility, flexibility and stability
- Improve co-ordination and balance
Pilates exercises are based upon an anatomical understanding of the body’s muscular and skeletal system.
Through practising Pilates we aim to balance and integrate the whole body, re-educating and restoring it to optimum function.
An improvement in posture can be felt from the first session. Regular Pilates practice helps develop a sense of poise and well-being in addition to improving physical condition.
